Haroon M. Cheema serves as the Vice President - Tax for JBB Advanced Technologies, LLC.  He oversees the group companies’ overall corporate tax reporting, tax attributes, and strategic tax planning to mitigate tax risk and ensure Federal, state, and local tax compliance. Since the company has extensive ventures in renewable energy, Haroon ensures all projects take full advantage of government tax credits and other incentives.    

 A U.S. tax lawyer with more than 25 years’ experience, Haroon began his career in Houston with Coopers & Lybrand L.L.P. (now PwC), one of America’s oldest accounting firms, then joined Halliburton Company, one of the world’s leading providers of products and services to the energy industry. For most of his tenure, he was based at the company’s Dubai office, overseeing tax matters for the company in the Middle East, Central Asia, and South Asia. 

Haroon spent nearly a dozen years with the Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company Merck & Co.  There, he advised on numerous international tax projects, including transfer pricing for services, tax-efficient intellectual property and supply chain planning, and the 2009 merger with Schering-Plough Corporation. 

From Merck, Haroon returned to the Middle East as the Head of Taxation for the Abu Dhabi Investment Council, the sovereign wealth fund now part of Mubadala Investment Company.  At the fund, he oversaw tax matters for investment operations in all geographies. During his career, Haroon has accumulated expertise in cross-border mergers & acquisitions, transfer pricing, and financing.

Upon his return to the U.S., Haroon established Timpani Global LLC, a consultancy, advising start-up and growth companies on tax planning, compliance, and risk management.  In addition, he advised investment banks on U.S. and global tax reform, tax audits, and litigation involving companies tracked by the banks.

Haroon holds a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Political Economy from Williams College and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was an editor on The Tax Lawyer (law review). He is admitted to the Bars of New York, New Jersey, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
